Observed evidence
The September 21 session delivered approximately $999 million of net U.S. spot-Bitcoin ETF inflows. Bitcoin did not sustain the breakout response. The event faded roughly 2.5% by the five-day maturity window and remained negative through day 10.
By October 7, ETF demand had reversed sharply, with approximately $484.9 million of net outflows. Bitcoin was trading around 5.6% below the September 21 reference, representing roughly $98 billion of price-equivalent market-cap erosion using a constant circulating-supply comparison.
Why Flow Efficiency matters
APEX defines Flow Efficiency as the percentage Bitcoin price response per $100 million of net ETF flow. The model does not label positive ETF news as bearish. It asks whether each additional dollar of institutional demand is still producing upward price progress.
Historical context
| Horizon | Sep. 21 event | Context |
|---|---|---|
| 24 hours | ≈ −0.5% | Early / not decisive |
| 72 hours | ≈ −2.6% | Weakening response |
| 5 days | ≈ −2.5% | Historical fade clearest near day 5 |
| 10 days | ≈ −2.0% | Weakness persisted |
The historical backtest remains context rather than destiny. APEX does not classify an extreme-flow event as confirmed exhaustion until the five-day window matures unless a materially stronger divergence appears earlier.
Strategy / MicroStrategy overlay
Strategy's latest disclosed purchase in this update was 334 BTC for approximately $28.7 million at an average price near $85,839. That transaction is well below APEX's $1 billion Strategy-overlay threshold, so it is not treated as a standalone bearish signal.
Interpreted evidence
This confirms a short-term institutional-demand exhaustion episode. It does not prove that Bitcoin has made a major cycle top.
